Champ Redd possesses a rare combination of strength and speed that sets him apart from his peers. As a freshman, he clocked an impressive 11.3 seconds in the 100-meter dash, showcasing his lightning-fast speed. In the weight room, he bench presses 375 lbs and squats 450 lbs, while also cleaning an impressive 300 lbs. His explosive strength is jaw-dropping and fist-clutching, earning him the nickname the “Ferrari” from his high school coaches.
Despite facing numerous challenges during his 2023 season, Champ Redd’s determination never wavered. For the first time in his athletic career, he found himself not starting and struggling to find his place on the team. The absence of a position coach for his unit and injuries further added to his inconsistency in the rotation. However, the biggest hurdle came in the form of acclimating to a new coaching staff comprised of Division II college coaches.
Undeterred by these obstacles, Champ Redd remained steadfast in his commitment to the team’s mission. After late-night games, he would return home and immediately head to the gym his father built in the garage, dedicating hours to lifting weights until the early hours of the morning. The lack of playing time during the season only fueled his determination to prove himself on the field.
“They wrote me off…but I didn’t write back!”
